June 18, 2006 THE SOUTH AFRICA AIDS CATASTROPHE LETTER #3
The ‘official’ percentage of the
population of SA that is said to be HIV positive is 1 in 3 people. That
is terribly high, but the problem with this statistic is that it is very
difficult to gauge who all is infected. Among indigenous South Africans
there is a tremendous stigma attached to the disease, those who are
found out to be infected are typically ostracized and rejected by family
and community! So the vast majority avoid blood tests and if they do
find out they are infected they never tell anyone. The result is that
only about 10% of those who are infected know they are! As I mentioned
in my first letter the AIDS rate in the black and colored communities in
Jeffreys Bay, the world famous surfing Mecca of Africa, is between 65
and 70%! We indeed live at AIDS Ground Zero! In a recent HIV/AIDS
conference it was quoted that 60% to 70% of the South African military
is HIV positive! They will die in less than five years. This equals a
looming national security crisis for SA! So, even though the official
AIDS rate is said to be 1 in 3 in SA some communities and sectors of
society have AIDS rates of up to 3 in 4 people! People are getting
infected faster in SA than anywhere else in the world, the highest AIDS
rate on earth. Just 12 years ago South Africa won a most historic
struggle for freedom against the great and evil giant of Apartheid
racism while the whole world cheered them on. Now their new found
freedom has turned into a slaughter that is taking place much swifter
than the world is responding. If we as mankind take as long as it took
us to confront and conquer Apartheid in SA the majority of all black
people of all of southern Africa will be dead! God took 27 years to
shape Nelson Mandela into a national father who could lead his nation to
freedom and peace. The freedom fighters battling under this present
oppression are dead in less than 5 years unless the church and
individual Christians really respond now and there are 100’s of 1000’s
of individual miracles from God and tons of teaching and disciplining.
This cannot be dismissed as Africa’s problem or black people’s problem,
AIDS is a world problem irrespective of color. The church around the
world must arise as a family, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers
under God on behalf of His children in South Africa and southern Africa.
To bring healing and teach them, to train and equip them, to empower and
enable them to live in true freedom and live abundantly!
This is all a matter of fact and
truth! We need your wholehearted support in every conceivable way for
the ministry here in SA; your involvement, your prayers, your
encouragement, and we need your financial support very, very much!
HIV/AIDS is ‘THE WORST
CATASTROPHE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD’, especially in Southern
Africa and the nation of SA, according to the United Nations. This is a
strong reason for strong actions. People are worth giving your life for,
worth fighting for, worth sacrificing for, worth going to the other end
of world for. As the Sphar and Allen families we believe we are where we
are supposed to be and we are blessed as a result, we are doing well,
healthy, and loving life. But, physical and financial resources are, by
far, the greatest limitations hindering us from greatly increasing the
effectiveness of the work we are doing among the victims of HIV/AIDS.
